VINTAGE DUAL GUARD CONSOLIDATED TIME LOCK DALTON PAT. 1879 SIGNED E. HOWARD RARE

For your consideration is a VINTAGE CONSOLIDATED  DUAL GUARD TIME SAFE LOCK DALTON HOWARD . . Porcelain dial is perfect no chips or hairlines, and  reads DALTON PAT. NOV.18TH 1879  # 929 MAN' F ' D BY CONN' L' D TIME LOCK CO. CINN O. , Chrome door trim marked # 413 The Dual Guard was first produced in 1884 and was a highly successful product . The Dual Guard used an unusually expensive E HOWARD movement and at .00 wholesale ( 00 in 2017 and retailed for about 10 times that much today ). E HOWARDS name is visible  on the upper middle front plate .
The Dual Guard was equipped with its own internal combination lock , allowing Infallible mechanism to be opened with from one to four numbers by shifting the pin visible below the time clock dial.
The Dual Guard was by far the most complex and expensive stand-alone time lock made . Its diminutive size makes its all the more remarkable . Located behind and to the right of the main dial is a small permutation ( combination ) lock represented by a single turning disk with small pegs in its holes corresponding to the set numbers . I was amazed at the fact, that the clock is in running condition , and started up immediately upon being wound a few turns, and has been running for a few days .  Measures approx. 4 1/2 " in height , 4 " wide , by 2 3/4 " in depth and weights approx 4 1/2 pounds .
Fewer than 500 of the Dual Guard were made , with less than TEN known to have survived .  This historic timepiece belongs in someones prestigious collection or a Museum.
