    Description

Early, probably pre-1900, pair of Quimper plates by HB.  Each marked "HB Quimper" just under the main scene on the front.  Scalloped edges. These were finished with a glaze that gives a slight bluish tint to the entire plate.  Each plate depicts a nicely drawn Breton woman in traditional garb.  Diameter of each is 8 3/4".  I've included in the pictures a shot of a page in Ann Marie O'Neill's book "
    Quimper Pottery"
which shows two strikingly similar plates, probably made at the same time and perhaps by the same artist.
Condition is very good.  There is the normal amount of glaze wear, and one of the plates has a small rim chip on the back which does not show from the front.  Your satisfaction is guaranteed
