1800's, Victorian,Civil War Style SHOULDER CAPE
. This is a used item. There is a stain on the back shoulder. As a used item it is sold "as is."
Similar short capes were worn throughout the 1800's and into the early 1900's. The cloak is made of exquisite, gold colored material woven in very narrow rows.s It is fully lined with gold cotton broadcloth. It closes with a black cord frog closure. The bottom edge is finished with 4" wide black chainette fringe. The cape is one-size fits most. It is 23 inches from the top of the neckline to the bottom of the center back. The neck opening is 24 1/2", the bottom edge of the cape, above the fringe, is 106". The cape is dry clean only.
The shoulders are shaped, to hang easily without shifting. It is a perfect cover for the shoulders, yet stays in place while keeping the hands free. It may be used as an elegant layer to keep the evening chill off. It is lightweight enough to provide covering for a low neckline but to not crush any trim or embellishments that may decorate the ball gown bodice.
